I don’t know how likely it is that you will find yourself in Satsukidai, one stop west of Shin Yurigaoka on the Karakida branch of the Odakyu line. But in the event that you do, it’s worth pointing out that there is now a brewpub there for you to visit. Pecora opened last year, (I think), but aside for my usual tardiness when it comes to getting to new places, I also had the usual excuse that when they opened they weren’t quite ready to brew their own beers. Now, however, they are up and running with every one of their taps selling their own beers, brewed on the premises. Here’s what you need to know about that premises.
- Quite compact taproom with tables for six and counters for about eight. The usual taproom decor you would expect, but with a nice, new feeling to it. The brewery is visible through the window in front of the side counter, so if you’re into looking at the equipment that was used to make what you’re drinking, you’re in luck.
- Nine taps of their own beers with a decent range of styles. Beers served in the usual two sizes, (UK) half and (US) pint. Prices ranged from ¥700-¥1000 for the former and ¥1200-¥1500 for the latter. They also had a fridge with some guest bottles and cans. Not sure if these were to drink on site or to take away, (or both), but if you’re making the journey here from elsewhere, I guess you’re not going to be drinking the guest beers.
- No cover charge, WiFi and a little bit of daytime opening on weekdays and plenty of daytime opening at the weekend. I seem to remember that the food was quite nice. I am ashamed to admit that I can’t remember what I ate.
This was a fun place to visit and it’s always nice to tick off a new brewery. The group I was with were slightly divided over the quality of the beer. I thought the Merino was very nice. I wonder if maybe they have a few too many taps compared to the amount of seats in the taproom so perhaps the beers don’t change very often, but I guess that can’t be helped. All in all, I had a nice time here. The staff were very nice and it was a comfortable place to spend some time with some drinks. Perhaps I should go back some time and have another look when I haven’t come straight from a beer festival. If I do that, I’ll be sure to update this.
