No Beer joins the club of slightly strangely named bars on this site. Much like Why Beer? in Yoyogi Uehara, it almost seems like they are trying to put you off visiting. After visiting, I can confirm that they do in fact serve beer and they have a decent variety of them available. Here’s what you need to know:
- U-shaped bar takes up most of the space and provides seating for around 15 at the counter. I don’t really know why, but it reminded me of an iBrew branch. (To be honest, I guess I do know why, as the original iBrew was quite a similar layout when it first opened). To continue the iBrew comparisons, it seemed like there was a decent amount of food on offer. And to continue in my usual Tokyo Beer Drinker style, I didn’t have anything to eat and failed to pay any attention to the menu so don’t have any details. Sorry.
- Seven taps of Japanese Craft Beer and a tap of Pilsner Urquel. One price all for the Japanese Craft Beers, ¥1600 for the pint and ¥1100 for the half. Maybe this pricing style also contributed to the iBrew feeling. Although iBrew has long abandoned that model of having everything cost the same. There were a few unusual selections on the taplist which is always a good thing as far as I’m concerned. The prices were maybe a little higher than in some other bars, but not horrifically so, and given that everything is priced the same, some of the beers are much better value than others.
- Daytime opening and no cover charge. I couldn’t find WiFi.
Them opening earlier than the Yorocco Ofuna taproom means that this is clearly the perfect place to visit on the way if you’re intending to go to there. I’d say it’s definitely worth visiting No Beer too though. You might find something you’ve never heard of. One of the breweries on tap was new to me. As there are only a couple of craft beer places in Ofuna (as far as I know), I think it’s not surprising that the prices are a little higher than you might expect from a bar in an area where there’s a lot more competition. Also as far as I know, No Beer is an independent bar, and when a place is independent I’m always a bit more lenient when it comes to pricing.
