Buso Brewery is a fairly recently opened brewpub situated right next to the Odakyu line station in Machida. The brewery also seems to go under the name of Kawasemi Brew. Perhaps Kawasemi will be opening other brew pubs in the future. Further muddying the water is the fact that in their Instagram bio it says that the brewery is a collaboration between ten local companies in Machida. So basically, I’m not really sure what’s going on, but to be honest, you don’t need to know what’s going on to have a nice time, do you? So here’s what you need to know.
- Medium-sized space with a central bar area with counters, and seats at various high tables around the outside. Apparently there is seating for 35 in total. The decor was as you would expect from a new brewery and the whole place felt like it had a decent amount of money behind it. I should also mention that they had a few tables on a nice patio outside which opened on to a little square. Slightly fancy pub food available. I quite enjoyed the vegetable sticks with a blue cheese dip, but I guess you’re not interested in what I ate.
- Five taps of their own beers and some bottles and cans from other Odakyu line breweries too. Their beers were served in two sizes, regular (296ml) and large (473ml) the prices ranging from ¥800-¥900 for the former and ¥1250-¥1350 for the latter. They also had a three beer flight (148ml each) for ¥1250. When we arrived it was quite busy and a lot of people were going for the beer flight. Beware that tax is added on later, so what you’ll actually pay is 8% more than what I’ve said here.
- No cover charge and lots of daytime opening. Once again, I forgot to check for WiFI. The staff mentioned a few times that the place was cashless payment only, so please bear that in mind if you are visiting.
It seems that this place is already quite popular with the locals. There were plenty of staff who seemed very nice and the whole experience was very pleasant. The beers seemed a little bit of a work in progress, but I guess they haven’t been open that long, (just over six months), so I’d be interested to see how they are in a little while. Also, I’m not sure if they will change their taps or if they’ll always offer the same five beers. I guess all of this is saying that I’ll need to revisit and update this post in the future. With Kimama recently opening and intending to brew at some stage, there are now quite a few places to visit in Machida. Next time I’m there, I’ll be sure to check in with Buso again.
