This is the very chic Tokyo taproom (a stone’s throw from Tokyo Tower) of Rise and Win Brewing. Rise and Win Brewing are based in Kamikatsu in Shikoku. This town is famous for its aim of becoming a zero waste town. It claims to have a recycling rate of 80% already.
Rise and Win, as you would expect, is also an eco brewer. For example, the grain from the brewing process is used to make granola. The taproom uses a lot of recycled goods and even staff uniforms are made of old recycled cloth.
There is a bar counter which seats 6 (made from a single tree trunk from Kamikatsu) and table seating for about 20. There are 8 taps (each with a deer antler attached). All were their own beers today. Unusually, there was no IPA. They were 2 lagers, a pale ale, a New England IPA, a fruited sour, a hard seltzer, a wheat beer and a Porter. None of the beers had an IBU above 30 so it isn’t really a place for very hoppy beers.
All beers were the same price; ¥850 for a small, ¥1,030 for a medium and ¥1,430 for a large. The large size was an American pint. Considering the fact that these are their own beers and they aren’t very high alcohol, this isn’t a cheap place to drink but there was no tax added on when I paid the bill. I tried the New England IPA which contains Yuko (a local citrus fruit) and the Porter. Both were light but nice.
The food included wagyu hamburger, venison sausages and salads. As you would expect, this is a no smoking establishment but I didn’t see any WiFi.
To be honest, the atmosphere seemed like a Shikoku / Eco friendly theme pub. It felt like a designer rather than a brewer put the place together. That said, this is definitely a trendy place that is worth a visit.
