Two recent jaunts to Yokohama for football meant that I could finally go to this new, (to me), Bay Brewing place very near Yokohama station. Situated on the second floor of a shopping centre (Yokohama Front) quite close to the north west exit of the station, this is a very convenient spot to get some Bay Brewing beers, (and a few guests). Here’s what you need to know:
- The decor is perhaps what you’d expect from the mention of it being in a shopping centre food court. Not the biggest place with a couple of counters and maybe tables for about 15 more. Notwithstanding the food court location, it was a pleasant place to have a few beers with the big added convenience that it’s relatively near the station. The food on offer was a mix of the usual Bay Brewing staples, (Ras potatoes, pickles, beer snacks), and some fancier Japanese dishes. Plenty of people were eating the latter.
- A massive 24 taps, six of which were side pour taps. About two thirds of the 24 were their own beers with the rest being a mix of Japanese craft and a couple of macros. Stupidly I didn’t make a note of the prices, but thankfully I went to another one of their branches a few days later and the prices were the same as far as I can remember, so to quote from that post… ‘As the sizes are different for different beer styles it’s a bit tricky to mention an all-encompassing price range, but the cheapest half or small size was ¥690 and the most expensive was ¥990. The large sizes of the same beers were ¥1080 and ¥1480, so there is definitely some good value to be had here.’ The guests were more expensive though, so I’d stick to their own beers. They also had a fridge of bottles and cans. Apparently there is a further discount to be had if you visit before 14:45 on weekdays and order a pint, which means you can get a pint for less than a thousand yen, which in 2025, is amazing.
- What else is there to say? Plenty of daytime opening, no cover charge, they had WiFi. That’s the holy trinity isn’t it?
There are plenty of good things to say about this place. The prices are amazing and the selection is pretty good. I’m a big fan of those side pour taps too. Also, it’s a convenient location if you have some time to kill when changing trains, (not sure how likely this is at Yokohama station, but you know, maybe you can build in some changing time just for fun). Some people might not enjoy the fact that it’s in a shopping centre, but as it’s never going to be my local, I don’t have a problem with that. And comparing it to the Kannai branch which I visited a few days later, I have to say I think I prefer the atmosphere in this place. (Their Totsuka pub is my favourite though). When I go to Bay Brewing places I usually stick to their lagers as I prefer them and luckily they are also their cheapest beers! Double win! With one more football game coming up sooner or later at the Mitsuzawa stadium, I imagine I will be back here again in the next few months, so take that as a strong recommendation.
