Another8 Corner is the sister bar of Another8 in Meguro, which in turn was a spin off from Before9 in Kyoto, which has now closed. I went to the Meguro branch once to put it on this site but have never been back since. There’s just too much choice nowadays I guess. I can’t remember what I wrote about that place so feel free to have a look at it and discover if there was another reason that I haven’t been back that I have forgotten about. I don’t think there was though. Anyway, here’s what you need to know about Another8 Corner:
- Medium sized place with a decent amount of seating. Serves lots of izakaya type food along with many varieties of booze. Felt kind of classy which of course made me feel slightly on edge.
- Seven taps of Japanese craft which seems like a weird amount so maybe not all of their taps were on. (I’ve checked, and they have eight, which makes sense when you consider the name…). Prices seemed reasonable on the menu, but I suspect that the serving sizes are quite small. (It was difficult to tell with the unusual but nice glassware). I suspected that even more after we ordered two M sizes for ¥900 each and the glasses were tiny. We pondered how small the S must be, but this question was answered when I went back and ordered another M and the glass was bigger. So basically there was a mistake with the first order, but it was probably too late to mention at that stage so I just internalised my sadness. The prices ranged from ¥650-¥750 (S), ¥800-¥900 (M) and ¥1100-¥1200 (L).
- No cover charge. Order your drinks at the till near where you enter and pay as you go. No WiFi I could find, but the Meguro-ku WiFi could once again be your friend here. Daytime opening!
Felt like a nice place, but the overcharging (or underserving) thing, along with a weird experience I had with a customer, (which I won’t go into as it has nothing to do with the bar), left a slightly bad taste in the mouth. Seemed very popular though, and most of the customers seemed to be a lot younger more attractive and more fashionable than me, so it probably wasn’t really the kind of place that I’d feel totally at ease in. I realise this is my problem though so please go and check it out for yourself.
