Today a quick post on somewhere that I’ve been before but didn’t put on here for some reason. Since then, they seem to have rebranded from Pivovar to Umaya, maybe suggesting that the focus is now the food rather than the beer (just a guess). Yokohama Brewery has been something of a mainstay in the Yokohama beer scene for a while now but it’s not exactly the first place people talk about visiting in Yokohama, or even Kannai. But, the staff were very friendly and they offer all their regular beers and seasonals in a variety of sizes so it’s easy to pop in and try them.
– Small bar area on the ground floor with a window through to the brewery. Seating for maybe 10 at a few tables and a small counter. Upstairs is a big restaurant with lots of seating. Have never eaten here so can’t really comment on that experience. Will stick to things in the bar downstairs.
– Eight taps of Yokohama beer, fresh from the brewery behind the bar. Five of them are their regulars, Bohemian Pils, Alt, Hefeweizen, Pale Ale and Lager and the other three are reserved for seasonals. When we visited, they had two seasonals on, an IPL and a wheat ale. The five regulars are available in a beer flight for ¥1500. Serving size for the flight is probably about 100ml. If you’re not up for the flight, the regulars are available in two sizes, 330ml for ¥700 and 500ml for ¥1000. The seasonals have an additional size available, 150ml and this was ¥400. Think the prices for the other sizes were about the same as the regular beers.
– Big food menu available but we didn’t try anything. It was just a beer pit stop! The weekend daytime opening and relative obscurity of the place means that it’s easy to pop in on a weekend afternoon and be able to get a seat. No cover charge and tax included means that it works well for pub crawls too!
Probably not much else to say. Yokohama beers have started appearing in quite a lot of places and I have recently heard people commenting on how much they have improved recently. If you are in Kannai and want to tick another brewery off your list, it’s well worth popping in. It’s very convenient for both the Bashamichi taproom and for Antenna America and Bay Brewing on the other side of the railway tracks. Kannai is a pretty great area for a nice drinking session.
