I’d heard a lot about Kichi before I managed to visit. Lots of people had said it was a nice place with good beer so I made a note to try to visit as soon as possible. As any long term readers will know, as soon as possible when it comes to Tokyo Beer Drinker usually isn’t actually that soon, and it seems like they’ve been open over two years already. But anyway, I finally managed to make it there and it was a fun place so I think it’s likely that I’ll be going back. Here’s what you need to know.
- Felt much more like a brewery taproom than I’d expected. For some reason I thought it was more like a beer cafe with a brewery hidden away somewhere out the back but instead it really feels like a taproom. Seating for ten at some small tables, a larger table for maybe four and a counter for three. They also have a patio round the side which I somehow managed to not notice when I arrived. Only small snacks available but it looks like they sometimes have food guests and even when they don’t you’re allowed to bring your own food (within reason) if you pay ¥100.
- Nine taps of craft beer, six of which were their own when I visited. The others were Japanese guests. Beers served in two sizes, regular (284ml) and large (473ml) but they also offered a plastic cup size for takeaway. Their own beers ranged from ¥600-¥700 for the regular and ¥950-¥1050 for the large, so very good value! The guests were ¥800 and ¥1300. They also had a fridge with some imported cans in it. Not sure if these are for on site drinking or for takeaway only. Presumably if you’re coming here you’ll be wanting to drink their beer though, won’t you?
- No cover charge, some daytime opening, couldn’t find WiFi. You order at the counter and pay as you go. Their opening hours seem to be quite regular and they post a monthly calendar on their Instagram so it’s easy to check if you want to.
Have to say, what the people said was right. I had a fun time here and the beers were not only very good value, but they were also very nice too. Saturday mid-afternoon when we were there, it was reasonably busy which is a good sign. Not packed, but if you want to be sure of getting a seat it might be worth either booking or getting there early. It’s a place that is definitely worth going to.
