I know I am always talking about how slow I am off the mark when it comes to visiting new places for this site. In this case I have really exceeded myself. I never made it to this place when it was the Nakameguro Beer Boy, and have now only just made it to this new bar which has opened in the same location nine months after it opened. And it was a real pleasant surprise! I don’t know why I never visited before as I’m not averse to a Craft Beer Market experience. But forget all that, this is a new place with a new direction. I suspect there are some similarities between this and the Beer Boy it used to be, but as I never went there, those will have to be identified by someone who knows more than me. After a massive preamble… (perhaps pre-ramble is more appropriate), here’s what you need to know.
- Standing bar located on a small shopping street not far from Nakameguro station. Standing room for maybe about 20 and some room on a small terrace too. The usual decor you might expect for a place like this. Lots of interesting food. When we were there there were a lot of Chinese dishes. Not sure if this is always the case or that was a special menu.
- Ten taps of Japanese craft. When we visited they were having a lager special event so there were lots of interesting lagers from all over the country. Beers are served in two sizes, half (236ml) and pint (473ml). The prices for the former ranged from ¥780-¥880 and were ¥1280-¥1380 for the latter. There are also a few bottles in the fridge and they have other drinks too.
- No cover charge, some daytime opening every day and they had WiFi too. The staff seemed very nice and very well informed too which was nice.
Have to say, I had a very nice time here. Standing bars aren’t great for an old git like me, but as the beer kept flowing I didn’t really notice the increasing leg fatigue and if we hadn’t been going on to another event, I could have stayed longer. They post on their Instagram when they add new beers to their menu so you should be able to get a good idea of what is on, by checking that. They also post their monthly opening hours on their too.
