Enjoy is a place that I have walked past a few times but had never entered till this visit. I’d always been intrigued by some of the things on their taplist, (which they post outside, an excellent idea, I think!), and the look of some of the bottles in their fridge. This time I was in Kitami, I decided to take the plunge on both Sake-ya (previous post here) and Enjoy on the same day and in Enjoy, like in Sake-ya, I was in for a bit of a surprise. Here’s what you need to know:
- Quite compact but not at all cramped corner bar very close to Kitami station. Limited seating and no seats at the counter. Maybe tables for about 15 people. You order at the counter and pay as you go.
- Nine taps on the menu when I went there. Beers are 2/3 imports to 1/3 Japanese craft. The imports are split between European stuff and some US and Australian stuff. Given that there are lots of imports, the prices are a little higher than average. But at the same time, some of the Japanese beers are more expensive than some imports so it’s all a bit of a mix, depending on style, strength and maybe rarity. Decent mix of styles including traditional and modern stuff. Beers served in the usual two sizes, (UK) half and (US) pint and prices ranged from ¥900-¥1250 for the half and ¥1250-¥1650 for the pint. Along with the taps, they have a selection of bottles and cans to drink on site or takeaway. The prices in the fridge are to take away, so you’ll pay a corkage fee if you want to drink on site. For a 330ml bottle this was ¥300, which is pretty standard. I imagine it will be more for the larger bottles, but unfortunately I didn’t find this out. Sorry. They have some VERY nice stuff in the fridge and I could easily have stayed for longer and spent a lot of money. Well, if I had the money anyway. Lots of good Belgian stuff in there, some Japanese craft, and US stuff. A really good selection.
- No cover charge, daytime opening, WiFi… I didn’t check… sorry. But I would imagine they have it as it doubles up as a coffee shop, (which I’m sure you guessed from the name). I am by no means a coffee expert so I can’t comment on that side of the business, but going by their taste in beer, I’d say, (with absolutely no conviction), that it’s probably good stuff!
A really pleasant surprise! My first impression was that it might be a bit too trendy for me, but I had a really nice experience here. That was probably mainly due to the delicious beers, but the atmosphere was really nice too and the staff were very friendly. Recently due to increasing prices it seems that the amount I earn in an hour is only slightly over the amount I spend in an hour, so this probably means that drinking delicious Belgian imports is something that I have to save for a special occasion. But at the same time, if it costs the same, it’s clearly better to drink two delicious beers than three that are merely quite nice. Enjoy will definitely be on my list of places to go when I feel like I deserve that kind of nice treat.
