When I was searching for places to drink Japanese craft beer in Hamura, this was one of only two places I could find. The other was Wildz, but the only similarity between the two is probably that they’re near the same station. Little Crop is a little further from Ozaku station, but still not more than a five minute walk. Here’s what you need to know:
- Less beer bar and more cafe/restaurant kind of thing going on. Seemed very popular on late Saturday afternoon. Given that it’s a cafe there is unsurprisingly a lot of food on offer and the pickles and cheese plate we had were very nice. I guess it’s ok if you want to go here and just drink, but it’s probably more polite if you buy some food too. Lots of seating split over two floors. They had quite a few staff too, so I guess it’s often pretty busy. Even so, it felt like a very relaxed and comfortable place.
- Three or four taps of Japanese craft, but those taps are Tap Marche beers, so you can’t really guarantee what they might be. When we were there they were, as far as I can recall, a Hideji beer and a Far Yeast beer. The other taps had run out. All of these beers were ¥720. I’m not sure what the size was though. They also do a beer flight of these beers for ¥1080. Not sure about the details of this either. Sorry. In addition to the Tap Marche stuff, they have a regularly changing selection of Vertere cans in their fridge. This is what we went for. They put the Vertere beers on their Instagram so you can check what they’ve got.
- No cover charge, daytime opening, and WiFi!
As I said above, Little Crop and Wildz were quite different places, but I liked them both in their own ways. Little Crop is the place for you if you want to have a nice beer in relaxing surroundings. Then you can go and have a party at Wildz afterwards. I’m really pleased when local cafes like this one take an interest in local beer. For me the Vertere cans are the real selling point here, I think. Not saying that they are rare, but more that they’re more appealing than some Tap Marche offerings. If you’re going to make the trip here from further afield it might be worth booking. We were ok just walking up, but when we left it was pretty much full. It’s not the beeriest of places, but the beer they have is good, and once you’ve had them, there are plenty more types of lovely booze and some nice food to try too.
