I was slightly disappointed when I went to add a new place to my Gifu round up and found that I hadn’t bothered making a Gifu round up. Last time we were here it was Yell Ale or nowhere in Gifu city. Now there seems to be a lot of new(ish) places, but we were only able to visit one new one to add here as our only opportunity was before a football game on a Sunday afternoon. Everywhere was closed by 10pm on Sunday night, so if you’re planning to have a night out drinking in Gifu city, my recommendation is that you don’t do it on a Sunday. The two places on here currently are both in Gifu city but there is also a newish (last year or so…) brewery in Gifu called Camado. It might however be easier to get there from Nagoya rather than Gifu city. Anyway, here’s what information I do have. And I’ve added Beer&Craft and Beer Stand Suzu to the map with question marks, as although we missed them, if their opening times would have worked, we would have gone.

Yell! Ale! Gifu!
Slightly irritatingly, I thought this was already on here so didn’t bother taking any notes about beers, sizes, prices or breweries, but an Instagram post from about a month ago has given me some information though. This is the Gifu taproom for the Nagoya brewery Y Market, but they don’t just have Y Market beers on. On the Instagram menu there were 13 taps, all Japanese, with only a couple of Y Market beers on and I think that pretty much reflected what was on when we visited. Beers served in two sizes, 270ml (¥800-¥1200) and 420ml (¥1150-¥1550). Nice food and maybe about 40 seats. I’ll add a photo next time I’m there.

Tap Room Yoroca (Gifu Beer)

Not to be confused with Yorocco (which of course is absolutely miles away), this is the tiny taproom for the Gifu Beer brewery. Very small space with four stools if I remember correctly. They had six taps, five of their own beers and one guest from a Kyoto prefecture brewery that I think I’d never heard of. Beers served in three sizes, S (270ml, ¥700), M (420ml, ¥800) and L (600ml, ¥1000). They also had a beer flight of any three beers for ¥1800. The serving size for the flight was the same as the S size, so much bigger than usual. Some snacks available and they do growler fills too. I think they also sold plastic cups to take away but can’t quite remember (even though it was only two days ago…). Very nice staff. This was another fun place to go. Quite limited opening hours, so best check their Instagram. But generally speaking, it seems that weekend daytime is a good time to go.

Kamado
Camado Brewery

About an hour on the train from Nagoya and then a little walk from the station, but this was a lot of fun. Six taps of their own beer plus a little shop with brewery goods and beer to take away. Massive covered patio which must be nice in the Spring and Autumn. Inside there are two bench tables seating maybe six at each and a little counter. Some food items, but I believe you can also bring your own food. Don’t expect to find somewhere to buy it in Kamado though as the town/village is quite rural, as you’ll find out as the train ride gets steadily greener. Some nice glassware / porcelain to drink beers out of if you want. They give you a little glass of the same beer with it so you can compare the taste. It’s interesting and my kind of thing. Will definitely go back. Limited opening hours, so be careful and check with them before you go.
