After climbing Mount Tsukuba (for work as it happens) I decided to check out Tsukuba Brewery.
The first thing to note is that it’s quite hard to get to. Even if you are at Tsukuba station, it’s still a 3km walk or taxi ride away. That said, if you are in Tsukuba it is definitely worth the trek.
There is a terrace outside with about 12 seats. Inside there is table seating for about eight and a counter that seats about five.
There were seven taps. Six were their own beers (Pebbles Beer) and there was one guest beer. The guest Beer was from August Beer, a brewery I had never seen before.
Half pints started at ¥700. Pints ranged from ¥900 to ¥1,100 and there was a flight of three beers for ¥1500. Pretty good prices.
The food menu was mostly small dishes to go with beers but included some exotic stuff. The choice of sausages included boar, kangaroo, deer and ostrich!
I was given some complimentary mixed nuts and the staff were friendly.
As I already said, this is a difficult place to get to but if you are climbing Mount Tsukuba, visiting Tsukuba University or just in the area, it’s a nice friendly place that brews pretty good beer and it’s worth popping into.
