Beer Glass Hopper is a one man bar located about seven minutes from Mizuhodai station on the Tobu line. I have a soft spot for one man (person) bars and I have met the owner several times at different bars on Thursdays, which is their day off, so I decided to check it out.
As you can see from the photo it is a strange looking bar. It’s in a quiet residential area which is pretty dark at night and then suddenly you see these bright orange lights. Apparently, the building used to be a Snack Bar and the owner has pretty much kept it looking the same.
The interior is spacious but dark. There is counter seating and tables but regulars all choose the counter if it’s not full.
There are four taps. Beers come in two sizes and were all the same price; 350 ml for ¥1,000 and 470 ml for ¥1,200.
All, or at least most, of the glasses were Tap Stand glasses. Tap Stand is a bar that closed down and their glasses were going cheap.
The only food available was crisps and nuts.
You would have a hard time persuading a woman to go to this bar on a date but it has a loyal bunch of regulars (not surprisingly mostly men) and I would certainly add to their number if I lived locally. I really do like one man bars. They are cheaper and once you get to know the owner they are really comfortable places to drink. Like drinking at a friend’s house. I really enjoyed Beer Glass Hopper.
