Previously, we’ve only had a few individual Kofu posts on here, but seeing as I’m now doing round ups for prefectures that I visit and I have a couple of new Kofu places, I thought it was about time to do a Yamanashi one. There’s not going to be anything outside of Kofu at this stage though. For the places with existing posts, I’ll just link to them. So here we go with Yamanashi.

This place was closed for a week when we visited but given that it’s a hostel and bar/bottle shop, I can’t blame them for having a break before tourists head back in force. Seems to have mainly imports and I heard that it’s a really nice place with reasonable prices. But… I couldn’t go as they were closed. Next time! (Or not as the case may be as it was once again closed on our recent visit! Maybe I should just say ‘one day’).

Persona Brewing
A relatively new brewery that’s opened about 10 minutes on foot to the north of Kofu station. They have a terrace and seating for about 15 inside with a counter and a few small tables. 7 taps of their own beers with the small around 330ml and the large 500ml. Prices range from ¥750-y¥800 for the small and ¥1110-¥1150 for the large. Seemed quite popular when we popped in.

Craft Kofu
This place was a very pleasant surprise. Feels like a British pub. Eight taps of Japanese craft, most of which was very local stuff and breweries that you don’t find around very often. Absurdly good prices for the first two taps which were Touchdown beers. The other stuff is a bit expensive but like I said, there are breweries I’ve never seen before which was a welcome thing and those prices were more than balanced out by the cheaper stuff. Nice range of pub food. Order at the counter and pay as you go. Daytime opening at the weekend. Closes unfortunately early on Sunday so be careful.

Obina Ale House
Quite a strange place with lots of wood decor. Felt like a cross between a Wild West saloon and an Alpine chalet. Mainly a standing place but there were some stools at the counter which ran round the room. And perhaps some sliding door rooms upstairs too, but I didn’t open the doors so can’t be sure. When we went they only had two of their own beers on out of the ten taps which was a shame. Quite a few beers had sold out from the previous day though so maybe we were unlucky. I have to say, the beers weren’t really to my taste and that’s being quite generous but I’m going to give them another go next time I am in Kofu as a friend who visited the previous day had a much better experience. Order at the counter and pay as you go. (Their website doesn’t seem to mention this place which is a bit weird. Maybe it’s an impostor! But I’ve put it below just in case).
