Today, another standing bar, this time run by a beer importer based here in Tokyo. Inn Beers run the Warrior Celt in Ueno and import British stuff. You may have recently noticed that there are suddenly a lot more hyped UK breweries’ beers available in Japan and this company is the reason behind this. Although the importer has been going for a while, I believe they have only recently branched out into the trendier end of British craft beers. I’ll probably be corrected on this but it’s certainly how it seems to me. Anyway, here’s what you need to know about their new drinking establishment:
– Another small place. This time it doubles as a bottle shop and a drinking establishment. Standing only with room for probably about ten people. In addition to the beers that I’ll talk about below, they also have British gins and serve some food which is delivered to you from the restaurant next door.
– Four taps of British beer. I’ve just realised I didn’t make any notes on the prices… Three fridges full of cans from hyped British breweries like Buxton, Cloudwater, Pollys and more (…that I’ve forgotten. Damn this isn’t going very well, is it? If I were getting paid for doing this I can assure you I’d take it more seriously). Prices seemed pretty reasonable to be honest considering how much they are sold for in other places where you can’t even drink them. I think the Cloudwater big cans were around ¥1400. Buxton a little cheaper if I recall correctly. Decent range of styles but unsurprisingly given the breweries stocked it veered slightly towards the hazy. I believe that the prices go down ¥200 if you take the beers away. Oh, and they do deliveries too.
– No cover charge, daytime opening and wifi. I’ve stopped mentioning no smoking as pretty much everywhere is no smoking now. They sell some glassware and goods from some of the breweries they stock too.
This was another fun place. I seem to be on a run of nice places recently which is a very welcome thing! If these kind of British beers are your thing I don’t think you’ll find a better value place to drink them than here. It’s not too far from Asakusa Metro station. Much closer to the Tsukuba Express station but to be honest, I had no idea that station even existed, so I’ve done the directions on the map below from the metro instead.
