An afternoon visit to Harajuku for an errand has kickstarted this blog back into real posting action. Perhaps… This is the first of two posts on quite new places in the Harajuku area which both happen to be beer shops with some degree of on site drinking. This seems to be becoming quite a popular business plan to follow recently. I guess this is in some degree down to our current Coronavirus situation. But it does make sense to offer a couple of different options under the same roof I guess. This post will be about Beer Cellar Sapporo Harajuku. Crazy name! The next, which I’ll also put up today, will be about Threefeet Tokyo. They are not too far away from one another but both offer different things if you look closely. Anyway, here we go with Beer Cellar Sapporo Harajuku.
– Following on from Beer Cellar Sapporo and Beer Cellar Tokyo which are linked but not completely if my recollection is correct, we have Beer Cellar Sapporo Harajuku which is probably more like the former than the latter. BCSH as I’ll call it from now on is a newly opened Kakuuchi in a new dining and drinking shopping centre a short walk from Harajuku station. Given the newness it will come as no surprise that it’s decor is shiny and new. Unlike BCT (are these abbreviations ok?), it has some seating. There is a small wall mounted counter for about five. A few standing tables and a nice patio which looked quite inviting even in February.
– 8 taps of mostly imported US craft with one from the Japanese Izumi brewery which you will know from BCT. Beer is served in two sizes, M and S. I’d guess the M is around 400ml and the S is in the same glass but maybe about 2/3 full. The M ranged from ¥1000-¥1200 and the S from ¥800-¥1000, so it’s not the cheapest place but prices are going up recently and the stuff is all imported. Tax is added afterwards as well. Also, there are a couple of fridges full of imported US craft beer which is available for drinking on site or to take away. (I’ve heard there might be a corkage fee for drinking on site).
– They have wifi available, there’s no cover charge and they have some afternoon opening. Oh and it’s no smoking. What else do I normally put in this section? I can’t remember.
So, if you’re looking for imported US beers to either drink on site or at home and you are in the area, this could be the place for you. I have no idea how busy it might get in the evening, particularly given the current situation, but I can certainly see myself sitting on that patio in the future.
