A quick update as I have finally managed to visit the new location of Sakura Taps. Now they are situated above the Kannai branch of Bay Brewing. They have a counter for eight and tables for maybe a few less. It’s a nice space and feels very comfortable. I had a very nice time here, even though it was a flying visit due to a football game commitment afterwards. Beers are served in three sizes, small (150ml), medium (250ml) and large (400ml) and the prices generally ranged from ¥630-¥780, ¥860-¥1060 and ¥1200-¥1490 respectively. There was one imported TIPA which was a lot more expensive so I’ve left that price out of the range. Eight taps, seven of which were Japanese craft, (along with that one expensive import), and it was a mix of interesting breweries. I would have liked to have stayed a bit longer as the staff member was very friendly and there was plenty I wanted to drink. Will be back next time I’m in Yokohama. (The photo, breweries and address details below all reflect the new branch).
I’m back. Firstly I would like to thank the people who have offered to help me keep this blog a little more up to date. The offer was much appreciated and I hope we can get this backlog sorted and then managing things will be a lot easier going forward. Anyway, this help has spurred me into action (I went to one new place… it’s a start).
Sakura Taps in Yokohama is a small Craft Beer and Coffee bar located pretty near Kannai, which is already a pretty damn good area to go drinking in. So now, we can add this place to the list. There is definitely potential for a decent crawl round this area. Here are the basic facts:
– Pretty small place with seats for around eight and standing at the bar for maybe the same again with a bit of a squeeze. Discount for drinking standing at the bar.
– Nice new decor and feels pretty comfortable. Focuses on beer, coffee and had some nice looking food items on the menu.
– Beer is served in three sizes 450ml, 250ml and 150ml. Prices are ¥1000-¥1300, ¥600-¥800 and ¥400-¥600 respectively. The standing discounts mentioned above make things a bit cheaper with ¥200, ¥100 and ¥50 deducted from the various sizes. There is no cover charge and tax is included.
So, probably not much else to say. On the day I visited the tap list didn’t have anything ultra exciting on, but I have been told by a friend that the selection normally has some good stuff and some stuff that you don’t see in many other places. Their tap list is published on their website and on their facebook so you can have a look before you go. All in all, it’s another decent place in an area with lots of good options. Maybe a little more expensive than other places, but the decent selection and nice atmosphere should make up for that.
