A quick post today on a place in Chofu that I guess now acts as the taproom for the Chofu Beer Works brewery after they stopped serving beer at the brewery. Think this might have been the first time I have actually left the station at Chofu. Not sure why I felt the need to tell you that. Anyway, here’s what you need to know.
– Feels quite pub-like, which to someone who doesn’t live in Japan might sound ridiculous, but beer places here definitely usually feel more bar-like than pub-like. Describes itself as a ‘cowboy bar’. Pretty tight space with standing on the ground floor by the bar with a few seats and with the main seating upstairs. Lots of pub paraphernalia on the walls, mostly pertaining to the city of Jackson Hole in Wyoming. A surprising amount of people were here late on a Sunday night before a bank holiday. They take bookings, so if you definitely want to come here and not get turned away it might be worth making a reservation. Lots of pub food, mainly with a US influence.
– Seven taps of Japanese craft, four of which were Chofu Beer Works beers. Beers served in three sizes, S (280ml), M (340ml) and L (430ml), priced from ¥500-¥700, ¥600-¥800 and ¥700-¥900 respectively. So pretty cheap. Other beers were from Coedo, Touchdown and Be Easy.
– No smoking, not sure about wifi. There is apparently a cover charge on the second floor of ¥320, but I didn’t notice it. The ground floor is charge free and pay as you go. Fairly late opening on Fridays and Saturdays and some lunchtime opening at the weekend.
So that’s about it. I had consumed a fair bit before arriving here as I’d had a very enjoyable time at a football match that my team won convincingly. Felt like a nice place and if you’re after trying the Chofu Beer Works beers this is your best bet. Think this is also pretty much your only option around this station too. Cheers!
