This is something of a rarity. I’ve been quite quick off the mark when it comes to visiting and writing about this place. Well, if you count within six months of opening as quite quick off the mark. But writing this has made me aware of the fact that Vertere are opening a new taproom in Tachikawa tomorrow, so that means as I tick this place off the backlog, a new one gets added immediately, which is slightly disheartening. But anyway, you’re not here to hear about my to-do list progress so here’s what you need to know about the Vertere Eifuku taproom.
- Quite compact standing bar, pretty close to Eifukucho station on the Inokashira line. As you might expect from Vertere judging by their can designs, the place is quite minimalist and bright. U-shaped bar counter for maybe 15 and one other standing table. It’s pretty tight if you’re on the side of the counter near the window, so if you have a choice, you might want to go to the other side.
- Ten taps of Vertere beer predominately served in two sizes, regular (330ml) and large (475ml). Some stronger or fancier beers are served in one 250ml size. The price of the regular size ranges from ¥1000-¥1300 and the large ranges from ¥1300-¥1600. The two one size beers were ¥1200 and ¥1300. They also have a fridge of cans that I believe are available for takeaway or drinking on site, but don’t quote me on that.
- No cover charge, a touch of daytime opening on weekdays and more at the weekend. For once I remembered to check and they do have WiFi. Some food is served too. It looked like it was slightly snazzy as you might expect. I didn’t try anything though so can’t really say. Other perhaps useful information is that the toilet is outside the bar and upstairs in the same building. Ask the staff to point you in the right direction. One final thing to mention is that it’s cashless payments only here, so come prepared.
I have to say, I was quite surprised by the prices here. I’d heard it was expensive but I thought that some of the prices were actually pretty good, especially when you consider that the regular size is bigger than the halves that you get in most places. And also considering that prices are increasing rapidly everywhere. On their website and Instagram they mention that they don’t accept reservations so perhaps it gets busy at times and they have to turn people away, so bear that in mind as a possibility. The fact that it’s a standing bar probably means that it will be somewhere I pop in to rather than go to for a long session. But with the Novel Craft taproom being just a few stations along the line, it would be very easy to make a little Inokashira line pub crawl so I’ll probably do that sometime soon. I really enjoyed the two beers I tried here and I’ve always found Vertere to have a decent mix of stuff available in their establishments. So I guess, in conclusion, this place gets a solid thumbs up from me.
