As you might have guessed, this was another place I visited on my ongoing quest to have a craft beer in every area of Tokyo. I think prior to going here, the only time I had previously set foot in Ome was when I changed train on the way to Okutama. I probably wouldn’t have guessed that there would be this kind of place in Ome. I didn’t know much about the city and after I did a quick google midway through writing this sentence, I found out that I maybe should have spent a bit more time there. It definitely looks like a nice place that apparently retains an atmosphere of Showa Japan. But anyway, this is all getting dangerously informative, so here’s what you need to know about Ome Bakushu.
- Nice looking place, with quite modern design. Seating at tables for around 14 and bench seats for four along the left hand side of the space. Loads of records, but when we were there I think the music was coming from a digital source.
- Eight taps of Japanese craft with some semi-local stuff and things from some breweries you might not expect. Beers generally served in one size only for ¥1000. The glass shape made it a little difficult to judge the size. I reckon maybe about 300ml, but maybe it was a bit more. I’d had a few beers by the time I got here. Sorry…. Two beers were served in small or large sizes. As we didn’t have either of those or see them it would stupid of me to guess the sizes but I’m going to anyway. The prices looked a bit like they might be US pint and maybe the other is a bit more than their regular size, as I think the breweries that were one size only would probably usually cost more than the ones that had two sizes. This is getting bit confusing and is all speculation anyway so I don’t know why I’ve written so much about it. They also had a fridge of cans but they were for takeaway only.
- No cover charge but they have a requirement of ordering one food item per person at the weekend. The two items we had were very nice and good value, so I’ve got no problem with that policy! They had quite a lot of food available but we’d eaten quite a lot before we arrived so didn’t explore it any further. Lots of daytime opening and not much evening opening which is quite unusual but maybe fits with the mood of the city. I didn’t check for WiFi. Sorry!
I had a nice time here! The place had a nice feel to it and we enjoyed the food and the beer. It’s really easy to pair a visit here with a visit to Vertere given that you need to change at Ome on your way back to Tokyo. And it’s really quite close to the station too. Given that I’ve only been to Ome once in my life it feels stupid to say that I’ll definitely be back here, but next time I go to Vertere, I’m sure I’ll be up for stopping here again and breaking up the journey home in a fun way.
