A recent football game in Yokohama gave me the opportunity to pop in to a new place for me. I have so many places on my backlog in Yokohama that I could have chosen many options, but I always like to prioritise brewpubs and breweries over pubs so I plumped for the enjoyably named Ergo Bibamus. Perhaps I’ll manage to get round to some of the others soon. I guess a Yokohama new(ish) place pub crawl would be a good idea to tick some places off. Anyway, here’s what you need to know about Ergo Bibamus.
– Fairly compact place with the small brewery off to the left at the entrance and then a narrow bar area with tables for around 16 and a counter for six. The usual kind of bar decor you would expect.
– Eight taps available but only seven were on when we visited. Four were their own beers made on site and the remaining three consisted of one from Toyama’s Kobo Brewery and a UK and Belgian import. All beers were served in nice glassware. Their own beers were ¥930-990 for 300ml and ¥650-710 for 200ml, so it’s not the cheapest place but that’s probably fair enough in the recent climate. The Japanese guest was about the same price as their beers and the imports were a little more expensive as you’d expect. They seem to like European styles here but perhaps with a bit of a twist. They had a peated Belgian stout which was a first for me and a ‘Special Lager’ which felt a bit like a Kristalweizen. I don’t know enough about brewing to know what was going on there.
– Nice pub food available. It’s no smoking and there was no cover charge. Also they had wifi. There is a bit of daytime opening at the weekend, but their hours vary so it’s always best to check on their Facebook for the weeks opening times if you’re planning to visit.
So that’s about it. We had a nice time trying some beers you will probably not find anywhere else. If the game hadn’t been a slightly disappointing draw and we didn’t have an appointment back in Tokyo calling I think we would have stayed longer, but it was a fun place to visit and will pop in again when I’m passing. Cheers!
